Rockford Thunder News Release
ROCKFORD - The Thunder announced today that several members of the team, including infielder Jamie Davison and Coach Jim Sherwood, will assist the Stateline Youth Association (SYA) in building a playground at Player's Park (5444 Swanson Road) on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 8 a.m.
The Thunder's involvement with the build is part of the team's initiative entering the 2009 season to get out in the community as much as possible.
"SYA and the people responsible for Player's Park were great to us during the 2008 season," said Thunder GM Aaron M. Moore. "They were there for the Thunder when we needed a place to play after the unfortunate flooding at Sportscore and this is a great chance for us to help them out."
SYA is a youth organization that provides youth from several Northern Illinois communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball. The building of the playground is part of SYA's mission, as well as the Village of Roscoe's, to provide the growth of youth in the community. During the 2008 season more than 450 kids called SYA home.
Anyone who would like to volunteer on Saturday is asked to contact the Thunder office directly.
