Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, OH.- The Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce that Defensive Back James Skodak has been assigned to the team by the arenafootball2 League Office. 2008 will be Skodak's (6'0, 214) first season in the arenafootball2 League.

A native of Lennon, MI. Skodak attended Division II Ferris State University where he ranks seventh in school history with 10 career interceptions. In his Bulldog career, Skodak tallied 157 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 43 pass break-ups, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three sacks. Skodak also made a name for himself on special teams. He returned two kickoffs for scores, ranking 38th nationally as a senior, with a 10.9 yards-per return average.

A four-year letter winner, Skodak earned a number of post season honors throughout his Bulldog career. James was a three-time All-GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) selection, and co-winner of the 2005 FSU Rich Currie E.P.E.P. Award. In 2006 he was named FSU's Most Valuable Defensive Skill Player, a Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Northwest Region selection and a D2football.com All-Northwest Region pick.

THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD SAYS:

"James has great size for a defensive back. With his height, we can use him to press receivers close to the line of scrimmage and play a physical style of defense. He also has very quick feet and good change of direction skills. We feel comfortable that Skodak can be a difference maker not only in our secondary, but also as a kick returner."

The Mahoning Valley Thunder opens the season at home Saturday March 29th on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre. Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Season ticket prices start as low as $96 and are on sale now. Group Outings and Birthday Parties for individual games also available. For more information call the Thunder Offices at 330.758.4af2 (4232).
