Thunder signs two Plano DBs to build secondary

FRISCO, Tex. - January 28, 2008 -- Tapping Plano talent to strengthen his secondary , Frisco Thunder head coach Troy Esprit announced the signing of defensive backs Kedrick Alexander and Chris Johnson today.
Both are first-year pro players and both played their high school ball in Plano, with Alexander a product of Plano High School and Johnson from Plano East.
"One big plus for the Frisco area is that I have the ability to put homegrown talent on the field," Esprit said. "Both these guys are incredible talents that are going to make a contribution to the team.. And if they want to keep the Plano-Plano East rivalry going, that's fine with me."
Alexander was a three-year letter winner at Tulsa , where he appeared in 39 games, including the 2007 Armed Forces Bowl. He was a 2003 second-team Western Athletic Conference selection following a season he started all 13 games and led the Golden Hurricanes with 121 tackles.
At Plano HS, Alexander was among the Dallas Morning News' top 100 players his senior season and was ranked among the top-10 strong safeties nationally by Max Emfinger's Blue Chip Recruiting.
Johnson was a part of Plano East's 2002 area finalist teams and went on to play at Central Oklahoma.
"Chris was very impressive during his tryouts," Esprit says. "He has a prototypical NFL physique and it's only a matter of teaching him the indoor game for him to become a standout player for the Thunder."
A playoff team in their inaugural season, the Thunder hosts the opening game of the 2008 Intense Football League season on Saturday, March 1st at 6 p.m. against the San Angelo Stampede Express.
