Frisco Thunder News Release
FRISCO, Tex. (January 28, 2008) - Even though things are hectic with his Frisco Thunder indoor football team's opening kickoff rapidly approaching, former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jake Reed will be keeping an eye on events at the Super Bowl this week.
Reed will even be in Phoenix Saturday, where he anticipates two former teammates will receive notice of their election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Fellow wide receiver Cris Carter is in his first year of eligibility and 11-time all-pro offensive guard Randall McDaniel is in his second.
Reed's expecting Saturday will be a time of celebration.
"They're the best two ballplayers in their position to ever play the game," Reed said. "Both of them should be shoo-ins. Both were great guys to play with and very deserving.
"This is a very big deal, every player would like to be at the point where they're considered Hall of Fame material," Reed said. "The next few days are going to be a nervous time, but it will be joyous once Cris and Randall get in."
Reed will also be paying close attention to Sunday's tilt between the New England Patriots and the New York Football Giants. Former teammate Randy Moss is making his Super Bowl debut trying to help the Patriots conclude the first 19-0 season in NFL history.
"It's time for Randy to shut up all his critics; once he puts that [championship] ring on his finger, he can walk along the likes of Jerry Rice," Reed said. "Especially if he stays in New England with a quarterback like Tom Brady. For a receiver with Randy's talent, that's a marriage made in heaven."
Reed's not worried about Moss' relatively quiet post-season numbers.
"He's making the other guys look a lot better,'' Reed said. "If Randy wasn't on the field, those other receivers wouldn't have been able to do what they've done. It shows he's become a team player."
Reed is in his second season of owning the Thunder, an Intense Football League team that posted an 8-6 record and earned a playoff berth its inaugural season. The Thunder kicks off March 1 against the San Angelo Stampede Express in DeJa Blue in the Dr Pepper Star Center. For more information, contact (972) 731-6968 or visit friscothunderifl.com.
