Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, Ohio- The Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce that Linebacker/Wide Receiver John Tackmann has been assigned to the team by the arenafootball2 League Office. Tackmann (6'2, 220) enters his first season in af2.

Tackmann is a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He joins the Thunder after a standout career at Winona State University, helping the Warriors win three conference titles in four years.

During his career at Winona State, Tackmann registered a staggering 271 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, four interceptions, eight pass break-ups and four forced fumbles to go along with two blocked kicks. A three time All- NCIS (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) selection, John's 6.4 solo tackles per game in 2006 led the NCAA. Tackmann was named the NCIS Defensive Player of Year following both his junior and senior seasons and earned a spot on the 2006 American Football Coaches Association All-American Team. Tackmann spent part of the 2007 training camp with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings.

THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD SAYS:

"Tackmann is a tackling machine, always around the ball. He's extremely versatile, in the outdoor game he projects as a safety, but in arena he'll make a great linebacker. That versatility allows us to move him around between both linebacker and the defensive backfield if we need to, and we feel confident he can contribute at receiver as well."

The Mahoning Valley Thunder opens the season at home Saturday March 29th on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre. Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Season ticket prices start as low as $96 and are on sale now. For more information call the Thunder Offices at 330.758.4af2 (4232).
