Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, OH. - In conjunction with the arenafootball2 League Office, the Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce that Defensive Back Lee Smith has been assigned to the 2008 Thunder roster. This will be Smith's (5'10, 198) first year in the af2.
A native to Mobile, Alabama, Smith was a key member of the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers football team. During his collegiate career, Smith's teams twice won SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) titles under head coach Rick Comegy.
In 34 career games, Smith accounted for 70 total tackles, three and a half tackles for loss, nine interceptions, (one of which was returned for a touchdown), and 19 pass break-ups. Lee earned All-SIAC post season honors in 2005 and was named to the pre-season All-SIAC team in 2006. He becomes the sixth defensive back assigned to the Thunder this off season.
THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE SAYS:
"Lee is a very physical player. He has all the tools you look for in a defensive back...size, speed, and smarts. The one thing you notice about Smith on film is that he's a very good tackler. He takes good angles and has a knack for understanding what the offense is trying to do."
The Mahoning Valley Thunder opens the season at home Saturday March 29th on Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre. Be a part of all the action in 2008 as the Thunder continues their climb towards the ArenaCup9 Championship. Season ticket prices start as low as $96 and are on sale now. Group Outings and Birthday Parties for individual games also available. For more information call the Thunder Offices at 330.758.4af2 (4232).
