Rockford Thunder News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford Thunder has re-signed last season's left fielder Amanda Williams, team General Manager Aaron M. Moore announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Williams, 23, was originally the 16th overall pick in the 2006 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Draft out of Marshall (W. Va.) University by the Chicago Bandits. After hitting .256 as a rookie in '06, Williams' average dropped to .194 during the 2007 season. She started all 42 games in which she played, while recording 21 hits in 108 at-bats, including four extra base hits. She also tied for third on the team with five stolen bases.
Defensively, Williams was very strong for the Thunder. She tied Kristen Zaleski for the team league with five outfield assists.
"It will be good to have Amanda back in the outfield this season for the Thunder", said Moore. We're hopeful the offense she showed as a rookie will return next season. Her defense is very strong and she has one of the best outfield arms in the game."
Williams' twin sister Jessica was also a member of the Thunder in 2007. It has not been determined whether she will return to Rockford in 2008.
