
Thunder Pull Away Late for 8-4 Win

WICHITA, KS - Two late goals in the third period and a hat trick by Kevin Seibel was the difference on Wednesday night as the Wichita Thunder pulled away for an 8-4 win over the Arizona Sundogs at Intrust Bank Arena.
The Sundogs and Thunder went back-and-forth throughout the game, but Chris Greene's tip in with 5:58 left in the third and Seibel's hat trick goal 19 seconds later shut the door on a comeback for Arizona.
A three-goal first period was the difference as Wichita took control with an opening power play goal by Seibel 6:43 into the contest. Alex Bourret extended the lead when his centering pass from the corner bounced off a Sundogs player and in the net three minutes later.
Craig Macdonald put the Sundogs on the board with Arizona's fifth shorthanded goal of the season on a 2-on-1 rush. Daymen Rycroft and Tyler Butler recorded the assists, but the Thunder made it 3-1 in the opening frame after Aaron Davis scored from the front of the net with 5:55 left to play. Davis's power play goal came on a 5-on-3 advantage for the Thunder.
Both teams continued to tradevgoals in the second period as Arizona kept closing the gap to one only to see the Thunder score again. Kevin Petovello, Daymen Rycroft, and Tyler Butler each scored for Arizona. Dustin Donaghy, Matt Robinson, and Seibel each scored for Wichita. Butler's and Seibel's tallies came on the power play as both teams alternated their second period goals.
Adam Russo earned the win for the Thunder with 23 saves. Mike Spillane took the loss for the Sundogs, stopping 20 of 26. Scott Reid relieved Spillane late in the second period and stopped five shots the rest of the way, giving up two goals
Wichita finished 3-for-6 on the power play. Arizona went 1-for-3.
The Sundogs return home for a weekend pair of games against the Ft. Wayne Komets. The Komets are currently tied with Evansville for the top spot in the Turner Conference. Friday's game starts at 7:05 PM MST.
