You Again?: For the third straight game, the Stockton Thunder will square off against the Oceanside Shock when the teams meet on Sunday October 18, at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, with game time set for 5 p.m. Pacific. All Thunder games are carried on Sports Radio AM 970 and streamed on the team's You Tube channel @Stocktonhockey.
FAN-tastic: A raucous, enthusiastic crowd of 5,710 greeted the Thunder for the return of professional hockey to Stockton at the Adventist Health Arena Saturday night for the team's home opener. Stockton had last seen the Thunder play in 2015.
Opening act: The Thunder didn't disappoint the large crowd with a 3-1 win over Oceanside, evening the season series at a win apiece (although Stockton has earned three points in head to head play and Oceanside two). Stockton never trailed in the game.
Worth The Wait: Team captain Petr Panacek opened the scoring for Stockton early in the second period. After several good scoring chances in the team's opening game, Panacek broke through but even then had to wait. Thunder players celebrated what they thought was a goal but was waved off,
based on the officials not being definite the puck crossed the goal line. Play continued for another minute and a half. Then at the next stoppage there was a lengthy video review, before the goal was finally awarded, giving Panacek his first marker of the season.
In The Mix: Center Nolan Mix scored his second goal in as many games. His deflection early in the third period gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead and proved to be the eventual game winner.
That's Mott Nice: Forward Chris Mott joined the Thunder in time for Saturday's game and had an immediate impact. He picked up two assists, setting up Panacek's game winner, and later assisted on Ilnur Madiarov's empty goal with 15 seconds left that sealed the victory.
First One's The Hardest: Goaltender William Augustine turned aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced Saturday night. It was his first professoinal win. The victory was also the first win for the Thunder's rookie professional coach Zach Pochiro.
Next Up: On Friday October 23rd, the Thunder return home to Adventist Health Arena and for the first time will play a team not named Oceanside. Stockton will host the Fresno Falcons in a 7:11 p.m. face- off. That will be the start of a two game home and home series between the two teams. It will be magnet schedule night with fans receiving a full color magnet schedule, courtesy of Mountain Mike's Pizza on West Wilson and Country Club Drive in Stockton.
