Minnesota Thunder News Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Thursday, August 26, 2004) - The Minnesota Thunder will be featured on the United Soccer League's game of the week on Fox Sports World this Friday, August 27 at 10 p.m (CT).
The last weekend of A-League play will be an exciting one as the Thunder is one of four teams in contention for the final three playoff spots.
The Thunder (41 pts.) currently sits in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, four points ahead of fifth place Milwaukee Wave United (37 pts.). Despite being in fourth place, the Thunder have a shot in their final two games of the year to move into second place in the standings as Seattle (43 points, at home versus Minnesota on Aug. 28) and Vancouver (44 points, at home versus Milwaukee on Aug. 27) each have only one game remaining.
A Thunder victory coupled with any Milwaukee loss would clinch a playoff spot for Minnesota, while a victory over Seattle on Saturday would also ensure a post-season appearance for the Thunder.
BlueSkySoccer.com, the Thunder's most popular fan club, has arranged for a viewing party of Friday night's game at The Local in Downtown Minneapolis at 931 Nicollet Mall. The Local is making an exception for the Thunder game only and allowing those under 21 years of age to watch the game. Following the game, however, all those under 21 will be asked to leave. Check www.blueskysoccer.com for more information.
If the Thunder qualifies for the playoffs, it will host a match at James Griffin Stadium on either September 1, 2, 4 or 5. For playoff information, visit www.mnthunder.com.
2. BRANAN NAMED TO A-LEAGUE TEAM OF THE WEEK FOR FOURTH TIME
Thunder defender Dustin Branan was named to the Week 19 A-League Team of the Week for his solid play in last Sunday's 0-0 draw at Calgary. Branan has been named to the A-League Team of the Week four times in 2004.
