About the Thunder
The Thunder is looking to bounce back against the Whitecaps who beat them in Vancouver on May 14 by a score of 3-0. Vancouver caught the Thunder tired in the second game of a back to back after playing the Seattle Sounders to a tie on May 13. After scoring four goals in the season opener, the Thunder has only mustered two goals in its next five games and has allowed 11. The Thunder should be at full strength as Nate Knox is expected to return to the line up after a slight groin injury. Knox currently leads the Thunder in points with four from one goal and two assists.
About the Whitecaps
The Whitecaps have gotten off to a fast start and was undefeated through its first six games until falling to the Seattle Sounders on May 27. The Whitecaps currently sit in a tie for second place in the USL First Division with Miami FC. Former Thunder midfielder Jay Alberts will return to the Twin Cities with his new team, although only playing sparingly in the first seven games and without any points. In 2005, the Whitecaps finished third in the USL First Division with a 12-7-9 record.
Thunder Head Coach Amos Magee
"This is a chance for us to bounce back against a good team on a field we are very comfortable with," said head coach Amos Magee. "The size of Griffin stadium plays to our advantage and I'm excited for a good week of training. I think we'll come out hard and defend our home."
Last Season's Series
Thunder went 1-2-1 against the Whitecaps last year, winning 1-0 on May 29 in Minnesota. Vancouver won 2-1 on July 2 and 3-0 on August 20, both in Vancouver. The two teams tied 0-0 on August 20 in Minnesota.
