Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, OH. - The Mahoning Valley Thunder in conjunction with the arenafootball2 League Offices are pleased to announce that Fullback/Linebacker Tavarski Wallace, (6'0, 237) has been assigned to the team. Wallace, an af2 rookie, is the first player signed by the Thunder for the 2009 season.
Tavarski, better known as "Taz", joins the Thunder after spending last season overseas playing in the Danish American Football Federation. Before playing overseas, Wallace was a record setting Linebacker at Division III Adrian College in Michigan. A three time All-American, Taz holds the NCAA Division III record for career tackles with 429 stops. That's an average of 13.4 tackles per contest.
As a three year starter with the Bulldogs Wallace secured a spot atop the Adrian record books. Aside from the NCAA and Adrian career tackles mark, Taz also registered the most tackles in a single season (155) for any Bulldog and the most tackles in a single game (33). His most successful season came as a senior in 2006. The three time team captain collected 138 tackles, seven and a half tackles for loss, and three and a half sacks.
Following his senior season at Adrian, the Alabama native was invited to play in both the East Coast Bowl and the Magnolia Classic. Taz joined the NFL's Detroit Lions for their 2007 rookie mini camp before being released prior to training camp.
THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD SAYS:
"As an organization we're excited to get our first player under contract and begin to shape our roster for 2009.Taz is an extremely instinctive player. He knows how to shed blocks and find the ball in a hurry. The first thing that jumps out at you is his ability to locate the ball carrier and tackle him in a hurry. He put up huge numbers at Adrian and we anticipate that production can translate to the arena game. With his size and speed we'll work him out at both the Mack and Jack Linebacker spots."
