FRISCO, Tex.(March 13, 2008) - Despite a 2-0 start, there's room for improvement for the Frisco Thunder. Special teams are where head coach Troy Esprit would like to begin the upgrade.

In the opening game against the San Angelo Stampede, Antwane Andrews had 107 yards on seven kickoff returns, and the following week Derrick Wallace had 236 yards on eight attempts for the Katy Ruff Riders. Both were named IFL special teams player of the week ... in losing efforts. Ouch.

"We definitely will be working hard on special teams this week and yes, it hurts to see that two weeks in a row a returner has received player of the week against us," Esprit said. " It's just a mental problem at this point and we will address it accordingly."

Esprit knows that certain players need to step up on special teams beginning this Sunday against Alaska.

Kevin Lenford is averaging 15.6 yards a return in the Thunder's first two games.

"On a good note Kevin has stepped up tremendously on returns," Esprit said. "We have added a player for this week, which will help us as well."

Alaska (1-0) enters Sunday's game coming off an 88-12 victory over a Fairbanks Grizzlies team that was playing its first-ever game.

Eddie Stephens also writes for Sports Page Dallas, a weekly publication covering sports in the Dallas-Forth Worth area.
