ALLENTOWN, Pa. - After jumping out to a 3-0 lead over Philadelphia, the Texas Thunder of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) eventually lost a 10-inning affair with the expansion Force, 4-3.
The Thunder (7-2) used a three-run fourth inning to jump out to the lead, a lead they would hold until the bottom of the seventh inning when Philadelphia (1-4) would tie the game to send it to extra innings.
Both teams scored single runs in the ninth to go to the tenth inning. Texas would not score in its half of the inning and that would cost them as Force first baseman Jenna Hall sent a ball over the fence to win the game. Hall delivered the solo home run, her first of the season, off Texas relief pitcher Krystal Lewallen (1-1). Hall was the first batter Lewallen faced on the night, as she relieved Thunder starter Christa Williams.
Williams earned the no-decision in the game after pitching the first nine innings. The former Olympic gold medallist struck out 11 and allowed eight hits in the game. The 11 strikeouts for Williams improved her league-leading total to 35.
Texas and Philadelphia will square off again tomorrow night in Allentown at 6:05 CDT. Rookie Serena Settlemier is scheduled as the tentative started for the Thunder.
The Thunder will return to action at Big League Dreams on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 when the Arizona Heat visit League City. Game time for the whole weekend is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Big League Dreams (1150 Big League Dreams Pkwy.) in League City.
