Frisco Thunder News Release

It's kind of natural that the Frisco Thunder would partner with a baseball team named the Blue Thunder for a promotional night at the old ball game.

We're just taking it to new levels.

The McKinney Blue Thunder has opened its doors to the Thunder for a fun evening at the Ballparks at Craig Ranch on Wednesday, May 28 when they host the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs.

Not only will the typical autograph opportunity and mascot appearance take place, but the Thunder is actually going to be in the game:

1) Thunder owner Jake Reed will coach first base for the Blue Thunder in the early innings.

2) Thunder assistant coach Eric Jackson, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds organization, has signed a one-day contract and will make his professional baseball debut.

3) Thunder dance team member Megan Bryson will sing the national anthem.

The Blue Thunder is an independent team unaffiliated with Major League Baseball and its farm system, However, many players from the Blue Thunder and the CBL advance to the next level as the 72-game, 4-month season progresses. McKinney is managed by former Texas Ranger infielder Curtis Wilkerson.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Fans can purchase online at www.bluethunderprobaseball.com/ticketswww.bluethunderprobaseball.com/tickets.

FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT SHAPING UP TO BE SPIRITED AND COMPETITIVE

A team wearing black and pink uniforms has started trash talking about the Frisco Thunder's upcoming Ultimate Five-On-Five flag tournament. That's a very positive sign for the inaugural event.

"When the smack talk begins during online registration, it means we're in for a fun weekend,'' said Thunder coach Troy Esprit. "I'm very impressed with the competitiveness of flag football players. I'm looking forward to June 7-8."

The two-day tournament, which will be held at the Five Star Sports Complex in The Colony, Tex., will offer a spot on the Intense Football League's 2009 training camp roster for tournament MVPs and a chance for the winning team to face an All-Star squad that includes former NFL All-Pro receiver and Thunder owner Jake Reed.

The Thunder has partnered withFlagFootballX.com, one of the nation's leading tournament coordinators and promoters, to produce the event. "They know their stuff and they know the talented teams that will make the event a success," Esprit said.

Members of the winning team receive season tickets for the Thunder's 2009 season opener in the renovated DeJa Blue Arena in the Dr Pepper Star Center and will be introduced at the home opener. Team pictures and action photography as well as complete coverage of the entire tournament will be highlighted on the team's web site at www.friscothunderifl.com.

The tournament format will be 5-on-5 with arena football rules. Each team can have as many as ten players ages 15 years or older. The entry fee is $250 per team.
