Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Mahoning Valley Thunder announced today the assignment of Quarterback Glen Gauntt by the arenafootball2 League Office.

Gauntt (pronounced GANT) enters his first season with the Thunder and seventh in Arena Football, combining both his AFL and af2 experience. Gauntt spent 2006 with the Nashville Kats and the Georgia Force of the AFL, with limited playing time. In 2005, Gauntt saw action in just two games with the Force, completing 15 of 18 passes for 177 yards and four touchdowns. With the Dallas Desperados of the AFL in 2004, Gauntt started in 12 games and finished the season with 58 touchdowns, with 3,009 yards passing on 237-of-394 passes with just 11 interceptions; he also added 14 yards rushing on 13 carries and four rushing scores. That same season, Gauntt garnered "Offensive Player of the Game" honors in back-to-back weeks, plus threw for a career-high eight touchdowns and 332 yards of total offense in other weeks. In 2003, Gauntt entered the AFL with the Carolina Cobras yet only had playing time in one game, but completed 21-of-45 passes for 182 yards with four touchdowns, plus three carries for six yards and a touchdown.

Gauntt's af2 experience has ties to Thunder Head Coach Mike Hold. In 2001 and 2002, he played for the af2's Augusta Stallions (Augusta, GA) under Hold and had an outstanding season in 2002. That season Gauntt completed 306-of-519 passes for 3,787 yards, 82 touchdowns and 16 interceptions and added 62 yards on 38 carries with 17 scores.

In Gauntt's collegiate career at South Florida, he was redshirted as a true freshman, but saw action in his final two seasons completing 55-of-100 passes for 71 yards with five touchdowns and only four interceptions.

"The Thunder Organization is extremely pleased to have Glen on board," said Head Coach Mike Hold. "His talent, experience and leadership will elevate our level of play and positively influence the rookies on the team."
