Thunder Adds Middle Infielder Mesa to Roster

June 25, 2009 - ROCKFORD - The Rockford Thunder has signed infielder Chelsie Mesa, team General Manager Aaron M. Moore announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal was not released.

Mesa, 23, finished her college career at the University of Arizona after a two outstanding seasons at Phoenix College. While at Phoenix, Mesa was a two-time first team NJCAA All-American, as well as the 2005 NJCAA Betty Jo Graber Female Athlete of the Year.

While at Arizona, Mesa played in nearly every game possible in two seasons and helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back National Championships. During her junior season in 2006, Mesa had 13 multi-RBI and 14 multi-hit games.

"I think this is a great opportunity to get back to doing what I love to do - playing ball," exclaimed Mesa! "I look forward to getting to Illinois and meeting my new coaches and teammates. I'm sure this will be an experience I'll never forget!"

"We're looking for Chelsie to come in and make an immediate impact for us," stated Moore. "The dynamic of this team is special this season and the addition of another quality player and person should make us better as a group. Chelsie will be asked to step in and add some depth at both middle infield positions."
