Threshers Win Rain-Shortened Game

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Clearwater Threshers salvaged game one of a three-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Friday night in a rain-shortened contest, 6-3 at Joker Marchant Stadium.

The Threshers (30-38) scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and wouldn't relinquish it. Art Charles provided the go-ahead base-hit with two outs which scored J.P. Crawford and put Clearwater up 4-3.

Brian Pointer followed Charles with an RBI base-hit of his own to keep the rally going, and the frame was capped off by an RBI walk with the bases loaded by Anthony Phillips.

Pointer finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Kevin Walter got the start for the Threshers and held Lakeland (20-48) to three runs over 4.2 innings of work. Walter received a no-decision.

Aaron Baker finished off the fifth and earned the win, lasting until the game was brought to a halt by the rain. Baker (1-1) tossed 2.2 innings and allowed just three hits and no runs. He added two strikeouts.

Edgar De La Rosa started for Lakeland and received a no-decision. De La Rosa came into the game having allowed just one run to the Threshers in his three previous starts against the team, but surrendered three runs over five innings.

Daryl Norris was charged with the loss for the Flying Tigers. Norris (0-2) gave up the three go-ahead runs in the seventh inning.

Herlis Rodriguez continued his hot streak at the plate, knocking two base hits and scoring a run. Rodriguez has had a multi-hit performance in his last three games.

Game two of the series is Saturday night from Joker Marchant Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00, with coverage beginning at 5:45 on threshersbaseball.com.
