EDMONTON, AB (August 3, 2014) - FC Edmonton ended their 312 minute goal-less streak just nine minutes into a 3-1 final victory over league leading San Antonio Scorpions on Sunday, August 3 at Clarke Stadium.

FC Edmonton's first goal was scored by midfielder Horace James, when he capitalized on a tap-in in front of net. The early 1-0 scoreline gave the Eddies their first lead of the 2014 North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season.

In the 23rd minute, San Antonio drew the match level at 1-1 after striker Eric Hassli converted a penalty which was called after defender Jonathan Borrajo was tripped in the box.

The home side had several more chances as the first half progressed, including a free header on net from Daryl Fordyce, which San Antonio goalkeeper Josh Saunders touched just over the bar and a sliding effort from Kareem Moses at the near post that brushed the side netting before heading out for a goal kick.

"I thought our goal was a cracker and it's something we've worked on in training," said Miller. "It's two good teams today and San Antonio is top of the league for a reason. We need to keep our discipline a little bit more defensively, but I see real problems that we can cause them in the second half."

The second half was all Eddies as striker Tomi Ameobi doubled the home side's lead in the 69th minute off of a free kick from Lance Laing.

Hearts stopped as Edmonton substitute Frank Jonke hit the post with his effort in the 77th minute, but fellow striker Daryl Fordyce made up for it and put the match to bed with a bullet from 20 yards out to make the final score 3-1 for FC Edmonton.

Not only does this match mark the first win of the NASL Fall Season, but it is also the first time that the Eddies have managed to find their way past the visiting team's goalposts since the 6-1 victory over the Carolina RailHawks in June.

"If we're limiting the opposition to as few of chances that we did today, I think at any level of professional football that's a fantastic achievement," said Miller at the end of the match. "It was a terrific team performance from back to front."

FC Edmonton now take to the skies as they start a two-match road trip in New York against the Cosmos on Wednesday and then to Minnesota to play Minnesota United FC on Saturday.

Fans can watch both of these matches at the Pint Downtown, FC Edmonton's official away-match host pub. For those unable to attend, the matches will be streamed live at www.nasllive.com.
