Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs were looking to go into the holidays with a bang, and they did just that on Saturday afternoon. Lewiston erased a 4-2 deficit after two, scoring three times in the third period for a 5-4 win. Pierre-Olivier Morin netted the winner with 3:41 to go in front of 3,308 fans at Centre Bionest.

The Cataractes got on the board first in the latter stages of the first period. Michael Bournival won an offensive zone face-off forward to Jean-Francois Plante, who jammed a shot on goal from the right side of the crease. Andrey Makarov made the save, but Yannick Veilleux was there to score on the rebound.

Early in the second period, the MAINEiacs pulled even. With Cole Hawes' help, Jess Tanguy won a draw back to Ian Saab at the left point. Saab tossed a wrist shot toward the net that found its way in for the equalizer. Shawinigan had an answer, as they retook the lead with a power play tally. Dave Labrecque slid a pass through the slot to Michael Bournival, who found the net with a wrist shot from the right circle. Lewiston tied the game 1:42 later, as Antoine Houde-Caron sprung Sam Henley in alone. Henley went to the backhand, slipping in his ninth goal of the season.

Penalty trouble continued to haunt Lewiston for the remainder of the middle frame. Dave Labrecque put the Cataractes ahead with a power play tally, snapping in a wrist shot from the right circle at the 12:26 mark. Then, with 56 seconds left to go, Michael Bournival connected again, picking up his third point of the game with a one-timer from the right circle.

In the third period, the MAINEiacs made a comeback. Dillon Fournier got things started, finding the twine with a wrist shot from the top of the offensive zone at the 2:42 mark. Ian Saab and Pierre-Olivier Morin assisted on Fournier's third of the year, giving Saab a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. 5:30 later, Lewiston tied the score, as Jess Tanguy jammed in a wraparound shot. Cameron Critchlow picked up an assist on his 19th birthday, as well as Stefan Fournier. Then, with 3:41 left in regulation, the visitors took the lead for the first and only time. Antoine Houde-Caron put a backhander on goal that was stopped, but the rebound was knocked in by Pierre-Olivier Morin.

Lewiston was put to the test in the end, as Houde-Caron was whistled for holding with 1:46 remaining. Andrey Makarov and the defense stood tall, as the MAINEiacs held on for the 5-4 win. Makarov made 32 saves on 36 shots for his second consecutive win, defeating Gabriel Girard, who allowed five goals on 31 shots for the Cataractes.

The MAINEiacs are now off until December 28th, when they visit the Victoriaville Tigres. Lewiston's next home game takes place on December 30th, as they will complete their home-and-home series with Victoriaville at 7:00.
