September 25, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- There is some real clamor and excitement being generated at this time of the year not only with the Evansville IceMen organization itself but also the greater Southern Indiana community in total. The reason being that the sights and sounds of pro hockey, IceMen style, are nearly here.
To that end, the IceMen continue to round-out their first-ever training camp roster as members of the newly-expanded 18-teams Central Hockey League.
On this date, General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that three standout members of the former AAHL Evansville squad, which captured that league's title last year, have been extended club invitations to attend the new CHL team's training camp through official Tryout Agreements.
Goaltender JOHN DORMAN, defenseman PAUL D'AGOSTINO and left wing AARON NAPHAN are expected to be on the ice when GM/Coach Kromm sounds reveille beginning Monday, October 4th at 9:00 am at the IceMen hockey home of Swonder Ice Arena.
DORMAN, 23, was both integral and instrumental in the IceMen ascent to AAHL league-wide grandeur last season in backstopping the team to the playoffs' crown. The 6-3, 195lb goalkeeper was a rather late season acquisition for the erstwhile Evansville club, posting a regular season mark of 14(7-7-0) in 15-appearances with a 4.08 GAA and .878 SPCT. His stellar post-season performance helped lead last year's edition to the AAHL promised land. Prior to his pro career, Dorman saw action in the OPJHL with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.
D'AGOSTINO, 26, is commencing his fourth pro season after dividing last campaign between the IceMen and the Louisiana IceGators of the SPHL. In 25-games clad in the Evansville garb, the Winchester, MA native registered 10-points on 2-goals, 8-assists before adding 5-more points in 6-playoff outings on 1-goal, 4-assists. The 5-11, 190lb left-shooting defenseman has also had brief stints in the CHL with Lubbock and Tulsa (2006-07) and in the ECHL with Pensacola and Trenton (also 2006-07). D'Agostino played collegiately at UMass-Lowell for two years and at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS in 2008-09.
NAPHAN, 27, will be starting his third pro season, having performed in 44-regular season games and 7-playoff games for the previous IceMen contingent. He averaged over a point a game in 2009-10, collecting 47-points on 17-goals, 30-assists along with 103-PIM. He was especially effective in the post-season when he averaged exactly 2-points per game with 7(5-9-14) and 10-PIM. The 6-0, 196lb Kingston, Ontario product actually debuted with the AAHL Evansville club one year earlier in 2008-09, accruing 22-points in 29-games on 12-goals, 10-assists. He has also been under the employ of the AAHL Battle Creek Revolution.
Coach Rich Kromm is expecting some 30-players in attendance at this season's opening day of training camp. There will be approximately 19-players signed to official CHL contracts with another 10-11 players invited to Evansville on a standard league Tryout Agreement.
The CHL IceMen camp will open, Monday, October 4th at 9:00 am at Swonder Ice Arena with two-a-day sessions scheduled for the first several days.
The IceMen will swing into CHL Pre-Season game activity in a very short period of time. They have three games on the slate with the first pair abroad in Missouri where they will tackle the Missouri Mavericks on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8TH and SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9TH with both games set for 7:05 pm CDT and radio broadcast time for both games set for 6:30 pm on IceMen flagship radio home Evansville's WEOA-AM 1400.
The Kromm "Crew" will conclude the brief dress rehearsals with their lone home appearance, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11TH also at 7:05 pm CDT when they guest the Mississippi RiverKings at Swonder Ice Arena.
