July 7, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Danville Dans News Release
DANVILLE, IL - The Prospect League's West Division team will have three Danville Dans on its roster for the league's annual mid-season All-Star Game. This year's game will be hosted by the West Virginia Miners on July 13 in Beckley, WV.
ÃÂ
Zach Miller (St. Louis), Jackson Slaid (LSU) and Michael Swanner (Pepperdine) will represent Danville in the game.
ÃÂ
ÃÂ "We're very proud of the accomplishments of our Dans selected for the Prospect League All-Star game," said Dans managing partner Jeanie Cooke. ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Miller, an infielder for the Dans, is eighth in the league, batting .360. He also leads the team with 15 RBIs.
ÃÂ
Slaid, one of the Dans catchers, is hitting .343, including 5 extra base hits (one home run) and has scored 15 runs.
ÃÂ
Swanner is the league's leading closer, with eight saves in his 10 appearances.ÃÂ He's allowed just 1 earned run in 13 2/3 innings pitched, throwing 14 strikeouts and just 3 walks.
ÃÂ
Swanner was the only Dans pitcher selected for the All-Star game, despite Danville having the third-best ERA in the Prospect League. The Dans pitching staff is also leading or is second in allowing fewest hits, earned runs, walks, hit-batsmen, and wild pitches. Dans pitchers have thrown five shut-outs and four complete games.
ÃÂ
"We've probably got one of the best pitching staffs that I ever been around, and we only got one guy on there' It is what it is. It's unfortunate,'' Dans manager Mike Hutcheon told the Commercial-News. "The cream will rise to the top and the best team will win in the end.''
ÃÂ
In their 24th year, the Danville Dans are affiliated with the Prospect League (formerly the Central Illinois Collegiate League - CICL). Formed in 1963, the purpose of the league is to: (a) provide family friendly,ÃÂ affordable baseball entertainment in the communities where our teams are located; (b) provide a summer baseball programÃÂ for eligible college players to give them experienceÃÂ using a wood bat in a competitive atmosphere; (c) provide a venue to allow MLB scouts to watch collegiate prospects using wood bats against live pitching in competition. The League follows all general rules and regulations put forth by the NCAA to ensure the amateur status of its student athletes.
