Philadelphia Force News Release

Allentown, Pa. - Pitcher Kristina Thorson threw a no-hitter and the Philadelphia Force used nine walks and two home runs to post a 7-0 victory against the China National Team.

Thorson allowed a leadoff walk, but then retired the next 21 consecutive hitters to pitch the first ever Force no-hitter. She struck out 10 in her first professional no-hitter. Thorson struck out every batter in the China (0-8) lineup at least once, and each inning included at least one strikeout. She improved her record to 3-2 on the season.

The Force, who climbed to the .500 mark, would score all the runs they would need in the second inning. Third baseman Clare Burnum drew a leadoff walk. First baseman Kellie Wilkerson, who was walked three times, followed with her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field.

In the fifth, the Force (6-6), winners now of five in a row, would post four more runs. After loading the bases on walks, shortstop Chelsea Spencer scored on a passed ball. With the runners at second and third, left fielder Megan McAllister hit her first professional home run to make the score 6-0.

Burnum added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give the Force their seventh run.

Right fielder Trena Peel made a spectacular catch in the outfield for the second straight game. This time, Peel robbed Mi Ren Rong of a home run in the first inning by catching the deep fly as she was crashing through the fence.

The Force and China will meet again Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
