Orlando City SC News Release
Notable Matches
May 30, 2015 vs. Columbus Crew SC - Pedro Ribeiro snatched a point for Orlando in the 89th minute with a scintillating long-range strike, saving what would have been a costly loss for the Lions. Captain Kaká buried a penalty earlier in the match on a play that saw Crew center back Michael Parkhurst sent off.
Ribeiro's goal was a true-blue banger:
May 29, 2016 at New York City FC - Another big comeback this week, this time from 2-0 down at Yankee Stadium. David Villa doubled the hosts' lead with a sublime chip in the 67th minute, then stepped to the spot just a few minutes later with a chance to put the game to bed. The infamous baseball field had other plans:
Villa's slip would prove costly. Orlando rallied back, first with a 72nd minute goal from Julio "The Beast" Baptista, and then with Kevin Molino's equalizer on the very last play of the game:
May 31, 2017 vs. DC United - Cyle Larin broke a nil-nil deadlock in the 67th minute and Giles Barnes stung the palms of Bill Hamid for a second as Orlando cruised to a 2-0 win over DC United this week in 2017. The win was Orlando's first in what had been a tough May after a 6-1-0 start to the season. Joe Bendik stopped three shots for the clean sheet.
Notable Moments
Orlando City made a major announcement on May 29, 2015, officially confirming that Exploria Stadium would be 100% privately funded and feature an expanded capacity. Initially announced as an 18,000-fan venue, the club added more than 7,000 new seats due to high demand during the inaugural season. The press conference featured club owner Flavio Augusto da Silva and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.
Following up on their partnership agreement made earlier that year, Orlando City and Stoke City announced on May 26, 2016 a friendly for Camping World Stadium that July.
