Real Salt Lake
RSL had a strong second half, but a late goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic resulted in a 2-1 defeat to the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, ending a two-game winning streak. Donny Toia scored his first goal of the season to pull RSL back from a 1-0 deficit and Andrew Putna made four saves - all in the first half as Salt Lake outshot LA 18-3 in the second half.
Real Salt Lake is now 3-5-1 (10 points) and remains in playoff position in seventh in the Western Conference. RSL returns home for three of the next four matches starting on Saturday against the Portland Timbers. Kickoff from Rio Tinto Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on KMYU and streamed on the KSL TV app and KSLsports.com, with radio coverage on ESPN700.
Utah Royals FC
Royals FC remained unblemished in the 2019 season with a 1-0 road win over the Orlando Pride on Saturday. Christen Press scored her first goal of the season and Nicole Barnhart earned her second straight shutout as URFC improved to 2-0-0 (6 points) on the season.
URFC looks to continue its hot start on Friday at Rio Tinto Stadium, hosting the Chicago Red Stars at 7:30 p.m. MT.
Real Monarchs SLC
The Monarchs (3-3-2, 11 points) dropped a 3-2 result on the road against Austin Bold FC. Tate Schmitt and Douglas Martinez each scored goals, but that wasn't enough to overcome an early 2-0 deficit that turned into a 3-1 score line by halftime. In the match, RSL goalkeeper Alex Horwath made his first appearance of the season on loan, while Schmitt and Luis Arriaga also made appearances in the match while on loan from RSL.
Real Monarchs return home on Saturday to face Fresno FC at 1 p.m. MT at Zions Bank Stadium for Star Wars Day.
RSL Academy
The U-17s and U-19s return to action on May 11, hosting Real So Cal at Zions Bank Real Academy. The U-17s are currently fourth in the USSDA Southwest Division at 11-7-3 (36 points) and in a wildcard playoff position while the U-19s are second in their division at 12-4-5 (41 points) and in playoff position.
