Utah Royals FC News Release

Real Salt Lake

Real Salt Lake opened the 2019 season with a 1-1 draw on the road against the Houston Dynamo. Albert Rusnák scored the lone goal for RSL, with Corey Baird picking up the assist as Salt Lake earned a road point ahead of the home opener this weekend. Sam Johnson and Everton Luiz both made their RSL debuts, with Luiz starting in the midfield and Johnson appearing off the bench.

In the buildup to the match, Nick Rimando announced that his 20th season would be his last and that he would retire following the 2019 season. He has been at Real Salt Lake since 2007 and is the all-time MLS leader in wins, shutouts, saves, games played and games started.

In addition, defender Justen Glad missed the match after suffering a broken toe on Thursday. The 22-year-old center back started 50 consecutive matches in 2017-18. He will be re-evaluated this week, when a timetable will be set for his return to action.

This week, Real Salt Lake opens the 2019 home schedule against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT, with local TV coverage on KMYU, KSL.com and the KSL TV app. The radio broadcast will be on 101.5 The Eagle due to a conflict with Utah basketball.
