Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME - As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, but it doesn't mean you have to like it. Salvaging a point in a 3-2 shoot-out loss to the Moncton Wildcats, the MAINEiacs 13 game winning streak officially ended tonight.

In the first period, Stefano Giliati put the MAINEiacs up 1-0 with a short-handed goal 7 minutes into the opening frame. Moncton's Chris Morehouse would score his 6th of the season with only 15 seconds remaining in the period to equal the score.

The second period saw the Wildcats take the lead as Matt Marquardt would tally his 23rd on the year. Down 2-1 in the third, the MAINEiacs played like it was game 7 of the playoffs carrying much of the play and winning battles. Their effort would pay off as Simon Courcelles would deflect a Kevin Marshall point shot to equal the score on the power play. The MAINEiacs kept the pressure on for the remainder of the period but the score would remain tied after 60 minutes.

5 Minutes of 4 on 4 overtime would not be enough to settle the game and thus the shoot-out would be needed to award the extra point.

After the first 4 shooters, neither team had found the back of the net and it was Moncton's Marc-Andre Labelle who finally turned on the red led and that would be enough as 5 shooters for Lewiston would be shut-out.

To rename the old streak, the MAINEiacs have not recorded at least 1 point in the last 14 games.
