The Rematch Is Set And Ready To Go

June 3, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers are ready to take on the Corpus Christi Hammerheads in a rematch of the first meeting on May 28th. In that contest, the Bucs won 69-47 that was close in the first half. The halftime score was 35-33 with Corpus Christi in the lead. It was in the third quarter when the Bucs rallied after getting inspired by head coach Darnell Lee during the intermission.

Though Louisiana turned the ball over on downs to start the second half, the Hammerheads turned over the ball on the following two series. The Bucs turned those into scoring opportunities. They would wind up outscoring Corpus Christi 36-12 in the last 30 minutes of regulation time. The Purple-And-Black defense stepped up in the game as Corpus Christi's quarterback Anthony Andre was sacked four times alone in the second half and two interceptions led to touchdowns for the Bucs. Louisiana quarterback Ben McLaughlin had 123 yards total and three touchdowns.

Coach Lee commented on what it's like to play the Hammerheads twice in a row. "Corpus Christi is one of our oldest rivalries and it showed on the field last Saturday." He said. "They are a tough team and it will be a challenge to beat them twice. Now we have to play in their arena and they will be prepared for us. Coach (Dustin) Almond (head coach of the Hammerheads) will have his players motivated and ready to go. We must be equally prepared to play them again."

The game is set for Sunday, June 5th, at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi with kickoff scheduled for 4:05 p.m. The Swashbucklers are 9-2 on the 2011 season while the Hammerheads are even at 5-5.

The Bucs will return to the Smuggler's Den for a June 11th rematch against the Houston Stallions.
