The OSC Interview: Philadelphia Soul quarterback Tony Graziani
by Fran Stuchbury
February 25, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
OurSports Central contributor Fran Stuchbury recently spoke to Philadelphia Soul quarterback Tony Graziani at Soul media day. Graziani is entering his third season with the team. Last year he passed for 2,989 yards with 41 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Fran Stuchbury: How has training camp been so far for the Philadelphia Soul?
Tony Graziani: It's been good. We have a lot of new guy to the AFL on our roster. They have meshed real well with the guys we have coming back. We're all fired up on trying to capitalize on what we did last year.
FS: Will Sean Scott be the go-to wide receiver in your offense this season?
TG: In offensive coordinator Connell Maynor's offense, he likes to spread the ball around, and he will be main threat along with Charles Pauley, J.J. McKelvey, Steve Gonzales, and Larry Brackins. Those guys have played real well in camp.
FS: How do you like working under Connell Maynor's offense, compared to Jim Kubiak's offense last season?
TG: It's a little different philosophy. It's more what I am used to, what I have done in the past. Connell and I have really meshed, and I'm happy he is here.
FS: How has your backup QB Juston Wood been performing in training camp?
TG: He's been throwing the ball great. Actually he was one of my backups when I was with the Los Angeles Avengers. When the New York Dragons let him go, I told coach Munsey that he should give him a call because I knew he could play. He is a very athletic guy who is going help out on special teams, can play WR or DB if he has to. He's going to wear many hats for us. He's been playing real well.
FS: So how do you feel about free substitution? Does it favor the offenses or defenses?
TG: I think a little bit of both. It helps the QB because you don't have any defensive lineman blocking for you. You got the big guys up front that will give you a little more protection, but then again your going be going up against true defensive backs. I think it's going help both sides.
