Rogers Park in Danbury, CT - The Danbury Westerners (12-12) came back to beat the Valley Blue Sox (12-13) after ten innings in a back and forth affair.
The Westerners entered the bottom of the ninth down 9-7. Immediately, a Harrison Feinberg (Southern California) solo home run brought Danbury within one. With two outs, Jermaine White (St Johns) smacked a double into the outfield, scoring another Westerner and tying the game. After shutting down the Blue Sox in the top of the tenth, Danbury loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the inning. Jackson Taylor (Indiana St) faced Blaze Fadio (Lafayette), Valley's usual second baseman who was tasked with pitching the tenth. Taylor hit a single, scoring Hank Thomas (Ohio St) and winning the game for the Westerners.
Danbury led 5-1 at the end of the fourth inning. In the first, the Westerners scored two off a Hank Thomas home run. The home team added another in the third before tacking on two runs in the fourth thanks to a Nicholas Romano (Georgia Tech) RBI single and a walk. Four Danbury players walked two or more times by the end of the night. Valley's lone run before the end of four came in the top of the second off a Michael Casaleggio (Palm Beach Atlantic) single. Casaleggio led all players with four hits.
After going down early, the Blue Sox began chipping away at the lead. Valley scored two in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 5-3. Another Nicholas Romano single for Danbury extended the Westerners lead to 6-3 after the sixth inning. The Blue Sox hit back, scoring four in the seventh to take a brief lead. RBIs from Michael Casaleggio, Anthony Sherwin (Bucknell) and Jacob Terwilliger (Bucknell) put Valley on top. Danbury quickly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to Jackson Taylor.
Valley scored two more in the top of the eighth to go up 9-7, but the lead was short lived again. Danbury scored two in the ninth to knot the game at nine, before ending it on a Jackson Taylor walk-off in the tenth.
The Westerners look to win their third straight in Bristol against the Blues (17-6) at 6:30 p.m. today. The Blue Sox have an off day today before playing Danbury again, this time at home, at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday.
