MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact played a second pre-season inter-club match on Friday, at the Centre d'activités physiques et communautaires de l'Est, near Marie-Victorin College, in Montreal. The first team defeated the U21 Academy 2-1.
Forward Reda Agourram (1st minute) and midfielder Anthony Le Gall (65th minute) scored for the winning side, while midfielder Wandrille Lefebvre (54th minute) scored for the Impact's reserve team.
"After a week off and a week of training, it was important for us to play an exhibition game in order to keep our rhythm," said Montreal Impact assistant coach Mauro Biello. "We played a good first half, but we lacked organization in the second. It's not unexpected after changing all 11 players at halftime."
Agourram took only a few seconds to open the scoring. The young forward took a through ball behind the Academy defense and beat goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau with a low shot just outside the 18-yard box.
The U21 Academy tied the game in the 54th minute, taking advantage of a counterattack. Midfielder Wandrille Lévesque fired a hard shot from 25 meters out, leaving goalkeeper Evan Bush no chance to make the save.
Midfielder Anthony Le Gall scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute. From inside the 18-yard box, Le Gall deflected a free-kick off the foot of defender Richard Pelletier from 35 meters out.
After letting in the goal, Bush was forced into a good save on the next opportunity, stopping a point-blank shot from midfielder Kevin Luarca. Goalkeeper Bill Gaudette played the first half of the game, but was not really tested.
The first inter-club game ended in a 4-0 shutout for the pro side, on February 18.
The Impact will play its next pre-season game against a side made up of university players, next Friday, at 10 am, at the Bell Sports Complex, in Brossard.
The U21 team will play the Concordia Stingers this Sunday at 1pm, at Loyola Campus.
