TEXAS THUNDER HOSTS VENEZUELA IN FOUR GAME SERIES

Texas Thunder (NPF) will host the Venezuelan National Team in a four game series beginning Thursday, July 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Big League Dream Sports Complex in League City. This series marks the first meeting between the two teams but it represents the second time Texas Thunder has hosted an international team in regular season play.

Just two weeks ago, Texas Thunder played host to the Russian National Team in a four game series at our new home on Wrigley Field in Big League Dreams Sports Complex. Texas Thunder earned some much needed batting practice during the games as they swept the Russians and pounded out 44 runs in four games. The series improved the Thunder to a 6-2 mark in regular season play and placed them just behind the New England Riptide for fifth place in the league standings.

The international competition marks a first for National Pro Fastpitch and was unveiled for the first time during this 2005 season. In an effort to strengthen the schedule and bring more international interest to the game, the league designed a 48-game regular season schedule to include series against Australia, Venezuela, Russia, China and Canada. Texas Thunder will compete against Venezuela July 7-10 (all game times start at 7pm except Sunday's game which has a 1pm scheduled start), and will host Canada as well from July 21-24.

The Houston Astros will graciously recognize the Venezuelan team on the field at Minute Maid Park during the pre-game ceremonies on Saturday, July 9, 2005. The Astros will take the field at 12:20 PM to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of their series. The Venezuelan team will stay to watch the Astros game then head to Wrigley Field to face the Texas Thunder for a 7:00 PM start time at Big League Dreams Sports Complex in League City.

Make plans to be in attendance as two-time Olympic gold-medalist Christa Williams (UT) will take the mound for the Thunder in the opening series game against Venezuela. 2004 Olympic Gold medalist, Amanda Freed (UCLA) will also see some time on the mound during this series. Don't forget to call our Rainout/Info-Hotline before you leave for the ball park at (281) 397-4646 in case games are delayed or postponed due to inclement weather in the area.
