Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
After being out of baseball for over a year, Terry Bevington will return as the manager of the Shreveport Sports in 2008. This will be Bevington's second time as manager of the Sports as he was the first manager of the newly formed team in 2003 and part of 2004.
A resident of the Memphis, Tennessee area, Bevington was the manager for the Chicago White Sox for three years from 1995-97 and posted a record of 221-214, finishing second two years in the American League Central Division and third place one year.
Bevington signed as a catcher with the New York Yankees out of high school in 1974 and played seven years in the minor leagues. He reached the Triple-A level as a player in 1980 at Vancouver in the Pacific Coast League before becoming a player-coach that same year for Burlington, Iowa in the Midwest League.
"I am excited about coming back to Shreveport and working with the new front office staff. This is a great opportunity for me to get back into professional baseball and to be close to my home in the Memphis area," said Bevington.
He began his managing career at Burlington in 1981 with other stops in the Milwaukee Brewers organization at El Paso in the Texas League in 1984 and 1985. His first stop to the major leagues was in 1989 as the first base coach for the White Sox and then became the third base coach for the Sox from 1990 until 1995 when he became manager. After his managerial days with Chicago in 1998, he was the manager at Syracuse in the Triple-A International League, an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Bevington then became the third base coach with the Blue Jays from 1999-2001.
After his stint in Shreveport, Bevington was the manager of Edmonton in the independent Northern League.
