Team USA Overwhelms Slovakia 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship

Gothenburg, Sweden ---- Team USA scored first and didn't let its foot off the pedal in overpowering Slovakia 10-2 at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden Sunday.

As a result of today's win, Team USA wins its pool with a 3-0-1-0 record and advances to the quarterfinals.

Rutger McGroarty (USA Hockey NTDP 2020-22), who scored the first goal of the game, recorded a hat trick to pace the Team USA offense in the win. Gavin Brindley (Tri-City 2020-22) scored twice and had an assist and Isaac Howard (USA Hockey NTDP 2020-22) added a pair of goals. Cutter Gauthier (USA Hockey NTDP 2020-22) chipped in with a goal and two assists as eight players recorded multi-point games in the victory.

Team USA, which features 22 former USHL players, got a 38-save performance from goaltender Trey Augustine (2021-23) in the win.

Team USA finished first in Group B and will face the fourth-place finisher of Group A in the quarterfinals Tuesday (Jan. 2) at 5 p.m. local/11 a.m. EST.
