Amsterdam Mohawks News Release

The 2012 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game was won by Amsterdam manager Keith Griffin's crew, Team Griffin, in a 4-0 decision over Chris Ebright, the manager of the Newark Pilots.

The Team Griffin vs. Team Ebright format this year was used due to the no-divisions format of the league this season.

Giuseppe Papaccio (Puh-PAH-chee-oh) (Seton Hall) for the Amsterdam Mohawks was named the game's MVP hitting a solo homerun in the bottom of the third on his way to a 2-for-4 night. Papaccio socked a blast over the Chain Monster in left for a homerun in the league's showcase game despite not having hit a single long-ball in the regular season.

Amsterdam pitchers Chandler Shephard (Kentucky), Mark Leiter, Jr. (NJIT) and Rocky McCord (Auburn ) all threw individual shutout innings for Team Griffin.

Other Mohawks who played in the field included Zak Colby (Faulkner), Ed Charlton (NJIT), Demarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) and Josh Nethaway (U. Albany). A couple other Mohawks on the Team Griffin All-Star team were not able to play in the game due to injury; Chase Green (SIU-Edwardsville) and Matt Pirro (Wake Forest).

Henderson scored in the sixth for Team Griffin on a single by Cooperstown's Quinn Pippin.

Brandon Cipolla of Watertown hit a two-run homer in the ninth to close out the scoring.

The game was witnessed by plenty of scouts from a variety of major league organizations on hand to check out the PGCBL's top talent. Many of the players in tonight's big game will be selected in upcoming MLB drafts in 2013 and beyond and will also go on to play professional ball. And several years in the future, we can look back on this 2012 PGCBL All-Star Game and see which of tonight's stars made it to the major leagues.

The Amsterdam Mohawks have clinched the regular-season league championship with a 30-10 record and locked down the #1 seed for the playoffs with begin on Friday, August 3 at Shuttleworth Park.

Amsterdam resumes regular season play Wednesday night at Mohawk Valley. The Mohawks next home game is Friday night hosting Glens Falls on the last post-game fireworks night of the season presented by St. Mary's Health Care.
