Tampa Expansion Team Added to ABA

January 14, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release


Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will add a team in Tampa Bay for the 2010-2011 season. "We are very happy to be returning to the Tampa area and particularly happy to have such an outstanding ownership group as Sports Equity Partners, LLC (SEP), a remarkable company led by an extraordinary management team," stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "SEP is involved in a variety of initiatives including sports, entertainment, apparel, management and construction - and the ABA is delighted to be a part of their plans. This is the first of ten ABA teams that will be owned and operated by SEP in the Southeast. The additional markets will be named shortly."

Carlton Fleming, SEP Managing Principal, played professional baseball with the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals from 1992 to 1997. After retiring from baseball, he entered the investment banking industry as a Vice President of Merrill Lynch. Following a successful career there, he served as a Senior Consultant with Accenture and is currently Vice President with the global consulting firm Jefferson Wells. He is extremely involved in the Tampa community and sits on the Boards of Community in Schools, Pasco County Take Stock in Children, and the 100 Black Men of Tampa Bay. He holds a B.S. in Management from Georgia Tech and an MBA in Finance from Fordham University.

Joel Sylvain, SEP Managing Principal, has an extensive background in sports and entertainment. He played collegiate basketball for NYU in the early 90's and then transitioned into the corporate arena by becoming partner/vice president to Bulldog Entertainment, a music management and production company. He was named a "Top 20 Rising Entrepreneur by the New York Post and also the NFTE Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He is currently President and CEO of the consulting firm, Maxamillion Enterprises and serves on the Board for Junior Achievement of Hillsborough County, President of the BNI Chapter of South Tampa, Friend of the Florida Venture Forum and member of the Committee of 500 Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

Peter Andrews, President of SEP Entertainment, was formerly the CEO of Paco Global, Inc., a 20-year old Philadelphia company specializing in entertainment and sports video productions. He is a former Vice President of NBC Entertainment, Senior Vice President of Columbia Pictures and Executive Vice President of MGM Studios. Mr. Andrews is a graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy, Wharton School and participated in an MFA program at Yale School of Drama. He is a former basketball captain and MVP at the University of Pennsylvania and a nominated Rhodes Scholar - and he has just launched Global Video Distribution, a company specializing in the marketing and distribution of independent films.
