Tampa Bay Rowdies News Release

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Rowdies have added another exciting attacking threat with the signing of midfielder Walter Ramirez to a one-year contract, the club announced Thursday. Per club and league policy, further contract details were not disclosed.

A wide midfielder with attacking flair, Ramirez joins the Tampa Bay Rowdies after spending the last two seasons with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. He brings with him an impressive depth of knowledge of the North American Soccer League.

Ramirez, 32, has played for the San Antonio Scorpions, Indy Eleven and the Strikers in his NASL career, which spans four seasons and 94 matches. He appeared in 27 of Fort Lauderdale's 31 matches last season, tallying a career-high five goals.

"Walter is something of a dying breed in the world of football," Tampa Bay Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. "He's a naturally left-footed, left-sided player which can alter the way his team wants to play. That'll be a big thing for us next season. So many teams nowadays play with a right-footed player on the left that drives inside, but Walter can give us that width we need."

The Tampa Bay Rowdies' midfield now boasts five members as signings continue to be finalized. Those players are Freddy Adu, Kalif Alhassan, Darwin Espinal, Walter Ramirez and Keith Savage.
