Talented UC Irvine Players Join the Bells

Bellingham, Wash. - The Bells have signed two freshmen from the highly successful University of California Irvine baseball program to strengthen their lineup. Jerry McClanahan, a catcher from Temple City, California, will join Dillon Moyer, an infielder from Bradenton, Florida, in Bellingham for the upcoming season, which begins on June 3rd.

McClanahan, a 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pounder, was a first-team all-league selection his final two years at Bishop Amat High School and was voted Del Rey League MVP following his junior season. He hit .405 his senior season with 29 RBI and 27 runs. A two-sport athlete, McClanahan started at Quarterback for Bishop Amat and was named first team All-Serra League his senior year.

"Jerry is a good all-around athlete and has a lot of potential as a hitter," said Bells manager Gary Hatch. "He will provide important depth at catcher."

Drafted in the 22nd round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins, Moyer is a 6-foot, 180-pound shortstop. He played his high school baseball at The Pendleton School, where he hit .351 during his senior season. Moyer is the son of Jamie Moyer, who has pitched 25 seasons in the major leagues, and the grandson of Digger Phelps, former head basketball coach at Notre Dame.

"Dillon is very talented in every aspect of the game," said Hatch. "We expect him to be a strong player for the Bells."
