Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
ALUMNI PROFILE - Where are they now?
Jonathan Bernier
From 2004-2008, Jonathan Bernier was the backbone of the MAINEiacs lineup. As the 2007 playoff MVP goaltender, Bernier racked up almost 4,000 saves throughout his MAINEiacs career. Now, in 2010 Jonathan seems to have a promising future ahead of him with the Los
Angeles Kings. After being picked up by the Kings in the first round (11th overall pick) of the 2006 NHL draft, Bernier's potential was yet to be discovered. Returning to Lewiston to complete the 2007-2008 season, Bernier eventually went on to play for the Manchester Monarchs while standout goalie Jonathan Quick excelled with the Kings.
With some AHL experience under his belt, Jonathan Bernier faces a tough challenge this year as he battles for the backup goalie spot against Erik Ersberg in Los Angeles. Bernier's potential, recognized by his coaches and fans alike, will surely make him a strong competitor for the spot, and a valuable asset to his team. This past Wednesday, Bernier debuted for the Kings as they battled against the Colorado Avalanche, saving 21 of 23 shots.
Be sure to follow MAINEiacs alum Jonathan Bernier in the 2010-2011 season with the Los Angeles Kings!

LEWY'S LEGION PROFILE - The Voice of the MAINEiacs
When it comes to radio announcers, the likes of Dave O'Brien, Bob Uecker and Jon Miller come to mind. Here in Lewiston, Maine, Alex Reed is at the top of the list. He is in his fourth season as the voice of the MAINEiacs on air, and the fans couldn't be happier.
Alex, who has a masters degree in journalism and public relations, also had undergraduate studies in radio/tv---and it shows! He is a natural in the press box. Because of his laid back and jovial nature, Lewiston has a reputation for being one of the most relaxed press boxes in the league. Alex stated "Everyone works hard, but everyone gets along so well with one another, we have fun on game day." When the MAINEiacs are on the road, Alex usually only talks with the opposing team's broadcasters. "Some of the arenas can be a bit intimidating, as the press box is located near, or in the middle of the stands! I have received some dirty looks over the years from opposing fans when I call a MAINEiacs goal. It tends to stand out when it's really quiet."
Even from a young age, Alex knew he wanted to be in broadcasting. When he started looking into different colleges, broadcasting programs made his decision to choose Marshall University an easier one. "It was a very hands-on program, and the more involved I got, the more I realized there was a potential future in this. I have a blast calling games, " Alex said. He credits his father with who he has become today. "He has worked incredibly hard to provide for our family. Everything that we have, or have been given is a result of his hard work. The chance for me to go to school for broadcasting, and be here today, is all because of him."
Not only is Alex the radio announcer for the team, but he is a huge fan. He talked about colorful players from the past and those that are here now. Sam Henley stands out as one of the funnier, yet polite players. Alex isn't sure if Sam realizes just how funny he is or how much he makes people laugh. Others that were always good for a laugh? Jordan Kennedy, Matt Boyle and Marc Bourgeois. There have been many memories for him in the past four years, both at home and on the road, but when asked which one stands out the most he recalled "a packed house in Quebec City last season. Michael Chaput scored the game winning goal with 25 seconds remaining. It was a sweet sight to see 15,000 fans head to the parking lot early. I never thought so many people would be so quiet! While this was a good one (memory) I hope that my best MAINEiacs memory is still to come!"
