T.C. Topples Rangers

January 23, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release

Traverse City - The Traverse City North Stars continued their winning ways at Centre Ice Arena Friday night with a 3-1 North American Hockey League win against the Marquette Rangers.

With the win, Traverse City kept pace with Mahoning Valley for the top spot in the NAHL North Division. Marquette slipped to 18-18-5 on the year, and now trails Alpena by three points in the race for third place in the division.

Alpena was idle Friday and will play the U.S. National Team Development Program Saturday and Sunday.

The North Stars leading scorer Kyle Bonis lead the Traverse City attack with two second period goals, his 19th and 20th of the season to spark the home teams' attack.

The Rangers Jim Gallagher scored his 15th of the year to answer Bonis' charge, but it wouldn't be enough as Marquette lost their second straight game to the North Stars - who added an empty net goal with one- second remaining in the third period.

Kevin Kissaw made 16 saves in a losing effort while his counterpart C.J. Motte stopped 23 of 24 Marquette efforts on the night to pick up his 11th win of the season.

The two teams will wrap-up their two-game set Saturday night at 7:05 in Traverse City.
