Marquette Rangers News Release
Traverse City - The Traverse City North Stars completed their North American Hockey League North Division sweep of the Marquette Rangers Saturday night skating to a 2-0 win at Centre Ice Arena.
With the win, Traverse City kept pace with division leading Mahoning Valley for a second consecutive evening. The Phantoms downed Motor City 6-2 Saturday night to maintain their two point lead over the North Stars in the North Division.
Kyle Bonis and Josh Miller would be all the offense needed for goaltender C.J. Motte to pick up his second straight win over Marquette; improving his record to 12-4-2 on the year.
The Rangers (18-19-5, 41 pts.) didn't lose any ground to the Alpena IceDiggers with the loss, as Alpena suffered a 6-4 setback to the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor Saturday night. However, the USNTDP closed to within three points of Marquette for fourth place with the win.
Kevin Kissaw saw 17 Traverse City shots on the night, stopping 15 of them.
Marquette will host the USNTDP this coming Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Arena, part of a seven game home stand that will take the club into the later-half of February. The Rangers play 13 of their final 16 games on home-ice staring with the games this weekend.
