Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, in conjunction with 93Q, are pleased to announce a national anthem singing competition, giving fans the chance to perform before the team's home opener this season. The contest will feature two rounds with live judging and fan voting playing part in determining a winner. The competition's champion will receive four tickets to the Chiefs' home opener against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Thursday April 16th at 2 p.m., and sing the Star-Spangled Banner on-field before the game.

"There's no better stage to show off your singing skills than the national anthem on baseball's greatest day," said Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol. "We're excited to partner with Cumulus and Live Space Entertainment and can't wait to see what our fans have in store!"

Participants are asked to submit a YouTube clip of them performing the Star-Spangled Banner and submit the clip, along with contact information, to community@syracusechiefs.com. In addition, contestants are asked to provide a photo or headshot to be used if selected for the live audition. The first round of entries will be accepted from Monday, March 30th through Sunday, April 5th. Nine contestants will be chosen by a panel of five judges, and one contestant will be chosen by an online fan vote to move on to the second round.

The panel for this event includes Smorol, along with four media personalities from the Syracuse community; Tom Honan from Live Space Entertainment, radio hosts Ted & Amy from 93Q and sports talk show host Mike Lindsley from The Score 1260.

The panel of judges will select the first nine competitors to move on to round two and then select three to five competitors to be submitted to the fans for an online fan vote. The fans will select their favorite singer, with that contestant being the 10th and final person to move on to the next round. Online fan voting will span from Monday, April 6th through Thursday, April 9th.

The 10 finalists will then perform live in front of the judges during Chiefs Springfest on Saturday, April 11th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All family and friends are welcomed and encouraged to attend and support the contestants.
