The Dawgs came out swinging in the first inning against the three-year veteran pitcher for the Rebellion, Dallas Escobedo. Kiki Stokes reached on a single to left field, followed by a bunt from Breja'e Washington to put runners on first and second. A deep sacrifice fly ball to left field off the bat of Madison Shipman allowed K. Stokes to move to third. Washington, with her speed, stole second base quickly after Shipman's hit. A two-run RBI single from Amanda Fama put the Dawgs on the board (2-0).

The Dawgs dominated on the defensive end in the first two innings as well, shutting down the Rebellion with 1-2-3 innings. Monica Abbott, in the circle, gave up one walk to Alisa Goler in the bottom of the second.

Continuing to strike with bats in their hands, the Dawgs delivered again in the top of the third. Another single from K. Stokes, followed by a shot down the third base line from Washington quickly put both speedsters on second and third. A perfect suicide squeeze by Shipman would score K. Stokes coming in home to score (3-0).

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Dawgs kept their bats alive in the fifth with a walk to Nerissa Myers, bringing up Shipman, who hit a rocket right back up the middle, just missing Escobedo. With two runners on, Fama remained disciplined at the plate and took a free pass to load up the bases. Emilee Koerner entered the box, but was sat down by Escobedo to end the side, who had an impressive outing tonight in the circle with 12 strikeouts on the evening.

In the top of the sixth inning, hometown favorite Christian Stokes stepped in to pinch hit for Taylore Fuller and just missed getting one over the head of second baseman Olivia Watkins. A blast up the middle from Dawgs center fielder Emily Crane kept the offense rolling, however, a strikeout to K. Stokes would end the inning.

A pitching change in the top of the seventh for the Rebellion brought in relief pitcher Emma Johnson, who ended the side in order. The Rebellion attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and pinch hitter Kristyn Sandberg up to bat. Sandberg hit a shot, but it was knocked down by shortstop Madison Shipman, who made an amazing diving stop and flipped the ball to Myers for the final out of the game. The Dawgs take game number one from the Rebellion on Fama's 2-run RBI and Shipman's suicide squeeze (3-0). Abbott shut down the Rebellion offense with nine strikeouts on the night. Attendance at tonight's game was 3,494.

The Dawgs will be back in action tomorrow, July 29, 2016 at TicketReturn.com Field in Myrtle Beach, SC, for game two against the Rebellion. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 EDT. BOX SCORE
