Jolene Henderson one-hit the Charge in game one and rookie Sierra Romero hit a two-run blast in the fourth inning, accounting for all the scoring. Game two was marked by much more offense. The two teams combine for 20 hits, including five home runs.
In game one, Australian National Team player Vanessa Stokes got her first start of the season for the Charge. She went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Stokes fanned four, walked one and took the loss. Jill Compton tossed the final three innings for the Charge, shutting out the Pride.
Henderson and the defense were masterful. The Cal alum struck out six and walked just one on her way to the complete game shutout. Henderson faced two hitters over the minimum, throwing just 89 pitches. She improved to 7-3 in the circle.
In the nightcap, the Pride jumped out to an early lead, homering twice in the first inning. Megan Wiggins led the game off with a long ball. After a walk to Kelly Kretschman, Chelsea Goodacre crushed one over the fence to give the Pride a 3-0 lead.
The Pride added another in the second on a trio of singles, pushing the lead to 4-0.
The Charge answered back with single runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Kylee Lahners hit a solo bomb in the third and Vickly Galasso repeated the feat in the fourth, making the score 4-3.
The Pride got a two run homer from Shelby Pendley in the top of seventh, making the score 6-3 as the Charge came to the plate for their last at bat. Even though a Chelsea Forkin long ball that cut the lead to 6-4, the Charge could not complete the comeback.
Hannah Rogers got the win, throwing innings three and four in relief of rookie Kelsey Nunley. Jordan Taylor got the save for the Pride.
Lauren Haeger took the loss, going four and one-third innings.
The Charge moved to 13-23 on the season. The league leading Pride improved to 27-10. The Charge will take on the Scrap Yard Dawgs on the road on Friday night.
