MOOSIC, PA (September 15, 2026) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell 9-6 to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Wednesday afternoon. A late rally felt short for the RailRiders who are still gunning for a playoff spot in the International League.

The Jumbo Shrimp posted three runs in the first inning. After loading the bases, Brayden Taylor recorded a sacrifice fly and a two-run double from Juan Matheus made it 3-0. Jasson Domínguez launched a home run 430-feet to get the RailRiders on the board.

Jacksonville tacked on two more in the next frame thanks to three hits and an SWB error.

RailRiders starter Brendan Beck settled in and reliever Danny Watson posted three consecutive scoreless innings to allow the offense to find its strength. Marco Luciano smacked a sac fly in the third and an RBI single from Jasson Domínguez moved it to a 5-3 score. In the sixth inning, Abrahan Gutierrez doubled with two outs for his first hit of the game. Jarred Kelenic followed with a two-run blast to right to tie things up at five apiece.

Immediately, Jacksonville took the lead right back. Cam Cannarella led off with a double and jogged home on another two-bagger from Taylor. The visitors made it 9-5 in the eighth inning, after knocking three straight hits. The RailRiders tried to rally in the ninth frame. Three consecutive singles brought in a run off the bat of J.C. Escarra but that was all the home team could muster.

Beck worked 4.1 frames, allowing five runs, four earned, with five strikeouts. Carlos Lagrange worked a clean inning in his first appearance off the Injured List. Eli Morgan (4-1) took the loss while Matt Pushard (3-3) earned the win. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues its series with Jacksonville on Thursday evening at PNC Field.

NEWS AND NOTES

IN THE LEAGUE- After a win in the series opener, the RailRiders remain in third place in the International League. However, they are just a game behind the leader - Rochester and Indianapolis. The RailRiders are 5-5 in their last ten games while Jacksonville has gone 4-6 and are 11.5 games back. SWB has had a pair of games cancelled, one versus Norfolk and the other Worcester, as did the Jumbo Shrimp with Gwinett and Durham.

HOMER HAPPY - The RailRiders now have 207 home runs after Jasson Dominguez and Jarred Kelenic added a pair last night. The team currently holds the second most in Triple-A, behind the league leading Saints with 247. Fernández leads the way tallying 26 on the summer, a dozen hitters have double digits, and 30 different players have at least one on the books for the SWB. The season record is 219 long balls, done back in 2023.

REMEMBER THAT?- The RailRiders and the Jumbo Shrimp faced off at the end of last season in the International League Championship. Jacksonville had won the first half of 2025 while the SWB took the second. The RailRiders won game one 5-4 but fell in back-to-back contests to end the three-game series. The Marlins' highest affiliate went on to win the Triple-A National Championship Game 8-7 over Las Vegas. Jacksonville utilized 11 different pitchers and scored a pair of runs off of a Jacob Berry homer in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off.

BRENDAN ON TOP - Yankees #28 prospect Brendan Beck still holds on to the best-earned run average among qualified pitchers, boasting a 2.93 ERA in the International League. This is just under a run better per frame than the next closest pitcher. He also is first in strikeouts (151), innings pitched (135.1), and WHIP (1.06). His strikeout count also ranks fourth most all-time for the RailRiders in a single season. In the past month Beck has been on the move courtesy of the Yankees when he was recalled and optioned down four separate times. His most recent performance was one clean inning out of the bullpen for New York. Beck has been honored with the International League Pitcher of the Week award three times and was deemed the June Pitcher of the Month for the league. The 27-year-old was drafted by the Yankees in the 2nd round back in 2021 out of Stanford University and has made two appearances this season for New York.

THE REYZEL-MAN- Eric Reyzelman tossed a clean frame last night to move his scoreless streak to 10.1 consecutive innings. Through seven outings, that began on August 25, he has not let up an earned run. Reyzelman was a fifth-round pick by the Yankees in 2022.

DUKE'S RECORD PERFORMANCE - Duke Ellis set a new single season record with 55 stolen bases on the season. He broke the record of 44 set by Tommy Barrett in 1989. Barrett did so in 120 games, whereas Ellis marked his in 85 contests. Ellis also holds the franchise record for 97 total with Scranton/Wilkes-Barres. The prior record was held by Nick Punto who stole 82 bags in 263 games. Ellis's personal record is 57 in a single year done back in 2024.
