Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers will take on the Houston Stallions for the third time in the 2011 season after dismantling the Corpus Christi Hammerheads 59-20 in the first round of the Southern Indoor Football League playoffs. Bucs quarterback Ben McLaughlin had five touchdown receptions and the Monster Defense picked Hammerheads signal caller Anthony Andre for seven interceptions. Louisiana scored 25 unanswered points against Corpus Christi and wide receiver Marcus Wildridge had eight catches for 98 yards.

In other SIFL playoff action from last weekend it was Houston Stallions 65, Rio Grande Valley Magic 62 in overtime; Columbus Lions 62 Trenton Steel 60; Albany Panthers 68, Erie Explosion 43. Next Saturday will be the SIFL conference championships. The other matchup will be the Panthers against the Lions. Columbus is the defending SIFL champion. Albany was defeated by the Bucs in the first round of last year's postseason play.

Houston won the game in overtime as kicker Jon Thompson's 46-yard field goal pulled it out with no time remaining on the clock.

In the regular season the Stallions defeated the Bucs 64-57 on May 15th and in a thriller on June 11th 40-38 in Lake Charles. Houston was the only undefeated team in the league during the regular season though a few of Houston's victories were decided by close margins.

The Swashbucklers will travel on Saturday, June 25th, to the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas to take on the Stallions for the right to advance to the SIFL championship game. Had the Rio Grande Valley Magic prevailed then they would have traveled to Lake Charles for the next round in the playoffs.

The SIFL title game will be played on Saturday, July 2nd.
