Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers are now in a "must win" mode in order to make the PIFL playoffs after another heartbreaking loss. Last Saturday the Bucs fell to the league leading Albany Panthers 54-47 within the final minute when Panther quarterback Cecil Lester fired a ten yard laser to wide receiver Clenton Rafe with just a mere 22 seconds on the clock. The teams were in a tie prior to the game winning play for Albany. The setback puts the Bucs at 3-5 on the season with four games remaining for the 2012 season. On Saturday, May 19th, the Bucs return to the Smuggler's Den as they host the Knoxville Nighthawks.

This is the second encounter between the two teams this season and the first home game for Louisiana in a month. Locally, kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Sports Radio 1310 AM KEZM with John Goodman calling the play-by-play. The contest is also available on the Internet at www.kezmonline.com and www.labucs.com. Pre-game is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.

Knoxville, in its first year within the league, are 1-7 looking for a second victory. The Swashbucklers are in fourth place in the current standings. In the previous game against Albany, the lead changed hands seven times between the two teams. The score was tied at 47 each with one minute remaining in regulation when Bucs quarterback Freddie Harrison threw an interception. The Panthers were able to capitalize on the turnover before time expired on the clock.

In other PIFL action coming up this weekend the Panthers will take on the Alabama Hammers and the Columbus Lions will host the Richmond Raiders.

Knoxville was also the victim of last minute heroics by the opposition in their previous game. With less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter the Nighthawks had tied the contest at 42 each with the Columbus Lions. The score would stay close in the remainder of regulation but with the scoreboard reading 55-55 in the last minute Lions kicker Chandler Brooks kicked a successful field goal that ended the game with a 58-55 score for Columbus. The game promises to be a hard fought battle on the gridiron with a berth in the playoffs at stake.

This is also the annual Freedom Fighters game for the Swashbucklers. All military and local first responders will be honored for their heroic service to the community and the nation.
