Swashbucklers to Face Houston Stallions on May 15th

LAKE CHARLES LA. - At the midpoint of the Southern Indoor Football League season the Louisiana Swashbucklers stands at 7-1 and leads the SIFL Gulf Coast division. On Sunday, May 15, the Bucs will face the Houston Stallions for the first time in 2011. The Stallions are undefeated at 8-0 and have won the Southwest Division title in the league.

Led by head coach Gerald Dockery, the Stallions easily defeated the Abilene Ruff Riders 56-24 at the Merrell Center on Sunday, May 8th. Houston almost was knocked from the undefeated ranks by the Corpus Christi Hammerheads on April 30th but prevailed and won 41-40. Hammerheads kicker Darren Brown missed a 19-yard field goal with 24 seconds remaining on the clock allowing the Stallions to leave the game with a victory.

The Stallions will enter the game with Robert Kent under center at quarterback and Carlos Alsop handling the ground game for Houston. For the Bucs, head coach Darnell Lee leads a team to the Merrell Center that has excelled with the passing of quarterback Ben McLaughlin. So far he has passed for 1,374 yards and 35 touchdowns. The ground game is in the capable hands of running back Kendrick Perry. This season he has a net gain of 285 yards on 59 carries. McLaughlin will be looking to his receiver corps to find holes in the Stallions defense. Among the wideouts for Louisiana are Sammy Knight (30 catches for 463 yards and eight touchdowns), Marcus Wilridge (22 for 304 and 10 TDs) and Mike Maciejewski (19 for 224 and 4 TDs). Assistant coach and defensive coordinator Dwight Hudler will be looking to John Paul Jones, Rodney Beamon, Damien Huren and the rest of the defensive unit in stopping Houston ‚¬â„¢s passing and rushing game.

The Swashbucklers will return to the Smuggler ‚¬â„¢s Den in Lake Charles on Saturday, May 28th, to take on the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. This game will also be the Bucs annual Freedom Fighter salute to the military and local first responders.
