Swashbucklers Announce Camp Roster

March 24, 2007 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES, LA The Louisiana Swashbucklers have announced their thirty man roster for the 2007 training camp. The Bucs have also signed several players from the north to compete for this year's squad. The team announced Thursday that newcomers Jabari Hendricks from Michigan State, a 6'5, 295 pound Tight End/Defensive End was added to give the Bucs a receiving threat on the offensive line that has never been seen before in past seasons. With Hendricks came Mike English, a 5'11, 200 pound defensive back from Michigan. Terrance Moore, a 6'5, 220 pound wide receiver from Midwestern State gives the Swashbucklers a big body on the perimeter where they are mainly known for their much smaller, speedy receivers. To round out the Northerners is Steve Reynolds, who should see most playing time at defensive back, but will be the main back up at quarterback for Freddie Harrison. He is 6'2, 195 and finished his college ball at Youngstown St, after playing at the University of Cincinnati.

The Swashbucklers have also added area talent as well. McNeese alumni Dwight Hudler will start at the center position this season, and brings much needed stability to the offensive line. Anchored by two time All-Star Major Griffin, the offensive line will be a strength, where it had question marks in past seasons. Returning are veteran playmakers, Shawn Piper, Shadrick McAfee, Keith Smith, and Phillip O'Neal as wide receivers, as well as Buck "The Truck" Harris as the fullback and goal line threat. Rookies Antonio Overstreet, Raymond Harris, and Marcus Wilridge have all impressed in early workouts on the offensive side of the ball.

The Defense will be one of the most feared in the Intense Football League in 2007. Anchored by a fierce line that features All-World Kendall Shello, John Paul Jones, Jerrell Zeno, and former Cowboy Robert Hooker, the front five actually gained in size. Moving All-IFL pick Anthony Camp and defensive end Rudy Johnson to Linebacker will give them more chances to use their speed to punish opposing quarterbacks. Ryan Garrison returns to lead the defense at the middle linebacker position. Travis Moses has moved from a small inside linebacker to cornerback, and the Bucs will add familiar faces, Warren St. Junious and Anthony Whitehead to the mix to protect against the deep ball. New faces Corey James, Ryan Dennis, and Reshaan Duke are all battling for playing time at the defensive back position. L J Daughtry and Chris Little are both working at the kicker position.

Notables missing from this year's camp are 5 year veteran Jermaine Martin, who has left the team for Boise to play in the Arena 2 league with former offensive coordinator Doug Coleman. "A change of scenery is just what Jermaine needed at this time" Coach Lee said." We are sad to see him go, but it's a great opportunity for him." Also missing is All Star MVP Ty Sellers who has left to play football overseas. "I have an opportunity to see things most people don't see in a life time." Sellers said. If Sellers returns to the US, he wants to return to Louisiana. Reggie Nelson, who started last year as a Coach and finished the season as the Bucs' center, has officially retired from arena football.

The Swashbucklers will kick off training camp on Monday, March 26th. The season officially kicks off April 14th when the Bucs host the defending champion Odessa Roughnecks. For season tickets or information about the team, please contact Scott Blanchard at (337) 310-PASS.
