Swarm's Nick Patterson Named Defensive Player of Week, Ryder Bateman Named NLL Rookie of the Week

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced today that Minnesota Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson was named Defensive Player of the Week and forward Ryder Bateman was named Rookie of the Week for Week #16 of the NLL season.

Patterson, 22 (12/8/82), stopped 45 of 57 shots faced and recorded an assist in Minnesota's 14-12 victory over the Philadelphia Wings Friday night at Xcel Energy Center. Appearing in his first game since suffering a knee injury on March 5th at Philadelphia, Patterson's recorded his first win of the season and helped lead the Swarm to victory in it's final game of their inaugural season. The Vancouver, British Columbia-native was 1-0 in four games this season for Minnesota and posted a 15.47 GAA and a .729 save percentage.

Bateman, 25 (2/28/80), recorded three goals and added an assist for four points and collected three loose balls in the Swarm's 14-12 victory over the Wings. This marks the second time Bateman was named NLL Rookie of the Week having previously won the honor in Week #7 of the season. The Calgary, Alberta-native ranked tied for second among NLL rookies with 20 goals and was third in scoring with 39 points in 14 contests this year. He was selected by Minnesota in the first round (6th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's ten member clubs.
